Here, you'll find resources to help you start your search for information for a literature review  - from finding articles to citing your sources properly.

Take note that many of the resources linked in this guide are licensed for use by UHM students, faculy and staff.  These members of the UHM community will need use their UHM login ID and password to access the material.

Search Strategy Process

Outlined below are the general steps to find studies for your literature review. Searching for literature is not a linear process. Even with your careful planning, the search process may take unanticipated twists and turns. Therefore, creativity and flexibility will help you to alter your strategies and find solutions to any research problems.

  1. ASK
    Establish the research question.
    1. Identify search terms.
    2. Identify synonyms for your search terms.
    Find information to answer the question.
    1. Select resources to search for information.
    2. Search for the information.
    3. Identify journal articles or information that may answer my question.
    4. Obtain journal articles or information.
    Evaluate the information.
    Incorporate information into your literature review.
