Interlibrary Loan

Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is a program designed to borrow materials from other libraries outside the UH system so that patrons can obtain materials that are NOT already available at the UH Libraries. If the item is already available at another UH campus please use "get this item" to place an intrasystem request. These items might be media, books or journal articles.

1. Login to ILL (https://illiad.manoa.hawaii.edu/login/) using your UH user name and password.

2. On the left hand side under New Request click on Article/Chapter to ask for a copy of a journal article or book chapter. Click on Book Request to ask for a book, dissertation/thesis, microform, DVD, or item on loan. Click on Other to ask for other materials (e.g. patents, archival papers, government documents, etc.

3. Fill in all the required fields (those marked with a red asterisk) with the information about the item you are requesting, then scroll down to the bottom of the page and click Submit Request.

4. You will be notified through email when your request has been delivered and can be picked up from the ILL office in Hamilton. For electronic items, the email will contain a link that will direct you to view the item. Plan your information needs ahead of time; the average wait for an item is 2 days (For electronic delivery of journal articles) to two weeks, however, this will vary with the type of item and where it is coming from. Note: most often, media items such as DVD's or VHS are not able to be ordered through ILL because not every library chooses to share these resources outside of their own library. For a list of libraries and what types of media they do lend, click here. Scroll to the bottom of the page.
