New Acquisitions (gift): Okinawa, the Birthplace of Karate

The Okinawa Collection at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa Library is pleased to announce that it received a book titled Okinawa, the Birthplace of Karate (『空手発祥の地沖縄) as a gift. The publisher of this book is Okinawa Prefecture.

The book was written in both English and Japanese, and explains how Okinawan karate started. It also introduces us a list of early karate prioneers, such as Choshin Chibana (知花朝信), Chotoku Kyan (喜屋武朝徳), and others. Okinawa Collection would like to thank our donor for their generous gift. Okinawa Collection has a special karate collection
