About the agency

The National Museum of Natural History was established in 1957, along with the National Museum of American History, as successor to the United States National Museum. The National Museum had been established as part of the Smithsonian Institution in 1848.

Government Documents holds an extensive collection of National Museum publications, including the following series:

Annual reports (SI 3.1:) Annual reports not only detail the activities of the National Museum; they also contain scientific reports.

Most pre-1900 National Museum documents, including the Annual reports, are available in the U.S. Congressional Serial Set.
