Open Educational Resources at the University of Hawai‘i

Open Educational Resources (OER) are teaching and learning materials that you may freely use and reuse at no cost, and without needing to ask permission.

OERs are typically free to use, share, and change. They are an important educational strategy for limiting the cost of textbooks and enhancing local content.

Types of OER material include books, worksheets, assignments, tests, lectures, syllabi, and images.

Most people creating Open Educational Resources share their material with an open version of Creative Commons Licenses where the creator keeps copyright ownership but also allows users to copy, distribute, and remix the materials for their own purpose, and then share what they have created so that others can use it in the same ways.
