Census Workshop 2021: Decennial Census

The Census Bureau's mission is to serve as the nation’s leading provider of quality data about its people and economy. Every 10 years, the U.S. Census Bureau conducts a census to determine the number of people living in the United States. The U.S. Census Bureau conducts the census in years ending in zero, on Census Day, which is April 1.

QuickFacts is an easy to use application that provides tables, maps, and charts of frequently requested statistics from many Census Bureau censuses, surveys, and programs. Profiles are available for the nation, all 50 states plus the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico, and all counties. Cities and towns with a population of 5,000 or more are also included.

The U.S. Census Bureau ended their 2020 Census data collection on October 15.  According to the U.S. Census Bureau, 99.9% of Hawaii’s households were counted.

• Completed every 10 years
• Surveys/assesses the entire U.S. population (households and group quarters)
• Collects information about race, age, and home ownership
• Determines the number of members in the House of Representatives for each state
• May be used by American governments (federal, state, local) and businesses to make decisions
