What is TXT0 (Textbook Cost $0) at UH Mānoa?
TXT0 stands for Textbook Cost $0—a designation for courses that do not require students to purchase any textbooks. All required readings and materials are provided for free through library-licensed e-books, articles, open educational resources (OER), or instructor-created content.

Why It’s Important
Many UH Mānoa students face significant financial challenges, including difficulty meeting basic housing, food, and transportation needs. TXT0 courses help reduce the financial burden of purchasing textbooks—saving students hundreds of dollars per semester—while ensuring everyone has immediate access to required materials.
Learn More
The UH Mānoa Library provides hundreds of free e-books with unlimited access for students. Working with librarians, we may be able to purchase the book you need for class or locate a suitable substitute. (Note: traditional textbook publishers such as Macmillan and Cengage usually do not sell their titles in e-book format to libraries.)
