The National Institute of Japanese Literature (NIJL) 国文学研究資料館 (国文研) is Japan’s largest inter-university research institute for humanities. With its deep resources (more than 300,000 pre-modern titles) and groups of well-known scholars & researchers, it has been engaged in numerous projects impacting the Japanese humanities field since the 1970s. In recent years, NIJL has focused on the “project to build an international collaborative research network for pre-modern Japanese texts,” initiated by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. In North America, NIJL has begun to collaborate with universities such as the University of British Columbia, UC Berkeley, and Columbia University.
