Business/Social Sciences Librarian
David Flynn is a reference librarian with more than 30 years of professional experience in academic libraries in the United States and Japan. He currently serves as UH Mānoa Library's liaison and subject selector for all instructional departments and schools in the Shidler College of Business and for the Department of Economics in the College of Social Sciences.
David earned his business degree at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio and master's degrees from Indiana University and the University of Hawaiʻi.
His professional career started at Indiana University where he was Technical Services Coordinator for the 12 Halls of Residence Libraries (HRL) and later Visiting Assistant Librarian for Undergraduate Collections and HRL Coordinator. Later positions included an appointment as Director of the Library at Huron International University in Tokyo, Japan and briefly as the Interim Head of the Asia Collection in UH Mānoa's Hamilton Library.
David has served in several leadership appointments with national and regional professional associations, including multiple times as chair of the Business Reference Sources Committee in the American Library Association. He is published in Library and Information Science Research, Journal of Business & Finance Librarianship, and Reference & User Services Quarterly.
He currently serves on the Senate Executive Committee (SEC) for the Mānoa Faculty Senate and is SEC liaison to the Committee on Faculty Service and the Committee on Professional Matters, as well as a current member of the Library Senate Executive Board.
