David Flynn, Business/Social Sciences Librarian

Aloha. I am a reference librarian with 32 years of professional experience in academic libraries in the United States and Japan. I currently serve as liaison to the Shidler College of Business and the Department of Economics.

I earned my business degree at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio and my master's degree in library science at Indiana University, Bloomington. I earned a second master's degree in communication and a graduate certificate in telecommunications and information resource management from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa

My professional career started at Indiana University where I served as Technical Services Coordinator for the 12 Halls of Residence Libraries (HRL) and later as Visiting Assistant Librarian for Undergraduate Collections and HRL Coordinator. Subsequent positions included my appointment as Director of the Library at Huron International University in Tokyo, Japan and briefly as the Interim Head of the Asia Collection in UH Mānoa's Hamilton Library.

I have served in several leadership appointments for national and regional professional associations, including multiple times as chair of the Business Reference Sources Committee in the American Library Association. I am published in Library and Information Science Research, Journal of Business & Finance Librarianship, and Reference & User Services Quarterly.

Currently, I am Vice-Chair of the Mānoa Faculty Senate and also serve as the executive committee's liaison to the Committee on Athletics. At the unit level, I am a current member of the Library Senate Executive Board.
