Install Zotero for iPad

You can use Zotero on the iPad browser by installing a "Bookmarklet," a special link that saves items directly to your Zotero account on the web.

You must have a Zotero account, and your iPad must be online, to use Zotero.

  1. Open in iPad Safari and bookmark it.
  2. Click “iPhone/iPad” and copy the code from the text box on the page.
  3. Edit the bookmark you just created.
  4. Change the bookmark name to "Save to Zotero".
  5. Paste the code from the text box as the URL for the bookmark.

When you're on a page with a citation, select the Save to Zotero bookmark. The iPad browser will save the citation directly to your Zotero library online.

Zotero for Firefox

Choose Zotero for Firefox if:

  • You use the Firefox browser
  • You prefer to have Zotero as a pane inside your browser instead of a separate window

Zotero for Firefox  runs as a plugin for the Firefox web browser, not as a separate program. Some advanced features are only available in this version.

The same version of Zotero for Firefox works on any computer that runs Firefox; there are no separate Windows and Mac versions.

Zotero Standalone

Zotero also offers an alternative version called Zotero Standalone and browser extensions for Firefox, and Chrome.

  • This is a separate piece of software that runs in addition to your browser.
  • You can sync it with a web account to access your library from other computers.

Word Processor Plug-Ins

Zotero has plug-ins for MS Word and for the open source word processor OpenOffice/LibreOffice. These tools integrate your Zotero library with your word processor, so you can automatically generate citations and create bibliographies as you write. See these pages for more information:
