The U.S. Department of the Treasury was established in 1789. It handles the financial operations of the U.S. government including currency, U.S. savings bonds, foreign assets control, and economic sanctions. 

Many agencies were formerly part of the Treasury Department. These include General Land Office, National Bureau of Standards, Coast and Geodetic Survey, Lighthouse Board, Immigration and Naturalization Service, Coast Guard, Public Buildings Service, Federal Supply Service, Secret Service, Customs Service, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms, and Bureau of Narcotics.

Annual reports of the Secretary of the Treasury (T 1.1:) are also available in FRASER (1789-1980). Annual reports contain administrative reports about the operations of all of the offices and divisions within the Treasury Department as well as statistics of receipts and expenditures, regulations, and legislation. 

Treasury bulletins (Microfiche T 63.103/2:), Jan. 1941- Sept. 2000. Also available online in FRASER (1939-present). Treasury bulletins contain reports, tables, and charts related to:

  • Treasury issues

  • Federal financial operations

  • International statistics

  • Financial commitments of the U.S. government

Circulars (T 1.4:) describe regulations issued by the Department of the Treasury.

We provide access to historical and current laws and regulations enforced by the Treasury Department. We also have Congressional reports, documents, committee hearings, and prints related to the Department of the Treasury. Search for these using ProQuest Congressional (UHM login required).
