**Science and Technology Reference DepartmentHamilton Library**

As a part of the Hamilton Library on the campus of the University of Hawaii at Manoa, our department supports the information needs of the University community in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

The purpose of this guide is teach you the basics of LaTeX (pronounced "lay-tek" or "lah-tek") typesetting. LaTeX is used for academic and technical writing because it simplifies the process of formatting a document, especially when dealing with mathematical formulae and equations.
