K-12 Schools

The State of Hawai`i Department of Education provides statistics on topics such as school enrollment, academic achievement, crimes in schools, and participation in nutrition programs like the National School Lunch Program.

 

The HIDOE Databook contains statistics about school complexes covering enrollment, student achievement, demographics, and more. HIDOE's reports page lists a number of reports about individual schools and data for the state.

Special Populations

The University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa's Center on the Family produces data on many aspects of families, including homelessness, and community profiles for school complexes.

Kamehameha Schools produces reports centered on the Native Hawaiian population on topics such as education and well-being.

The Office of Hawaiian Affairs publishes the Native Hawaiian Data Book, which contains statistical data about Native Hawaiians both in Hawai‘i and in the continental U.S.

Exercise

Find the data for a community profile of a place in Hawai‘i (either a CDP or a tract). These are the pieces of information you need to find for your selected community:

  1. Total population
  2. Number of preschoolers
  3. Number of school-aged children
  4. Languages spoken at home
  5. Number of residents over age 65
  6. Ethnic breakdown
