Program Summary

The Japan Collection Library Travel Award is made possible by anonymous donors and matching funds from the UHM Center for Japanese Studies. The UHM Library will award a grant on a competitive basis to defray travel expenses for faculty and graduate-level students of Japanese studies/East Asian studies at U.S. institutions outside of Hawaii, who will use materials onsite at the UHM Library’s Japan Collection.

After arrival at UHM, payment of the travel award amount will be processed with the UH Disbursing Office. This award is considered taxable income by the IRS and as required by law, the Disbursing Office will report this to the IRS.

During their visit, the awardees are expected to make brief presentations about their research to the UH community to learn from each other if the schedule permits. These presentations don't need to include what they just learned from this awarded visit.
