Physics Resources Guide

This guide is designed to help students, faculty, and staff at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa find information resources for course work, teaching, and research related to Physics. Click on the Tabs to find books, journal articles, etc.

This guide focuses on library and Web-available resources, many of which are RESTRICTED to access by UH Mānoa students, faculty and staff. UH ITS Web Login Service is used to provide access outside of the Library to authorized users.

Department of Physics and Astronomy
The major research areas are elementary particle physics, free-electron laser physics (including applications in medical physics), condensed matter physics, particle astrophysics, with a combined annual funding of several million dollars.
Institute for Astronomy (IfA)
The Institute for Astronomy (IfA) was founded at the University of Hawai‘i (UH) in 1967 to manage the Haleakalā Observatories on Maui and the Mauna Kea

Center for Microbial Oceanography: Research and Education (C-MORE)
Facilitating a greater understanding of microorganisms in the sea, ranging from the genetic basis of marine microbial life to their ecological place in the marine environment.
Hawai‘i Institute of Geophysics and Planetology (HIGP)
A multi-disciplinary institute engaging in advanced research, teaching, and service in cutting-edge oceanographic, atmospheric, geophysical, geological, and planetary sciences.
Hawai‘i Institute of Marine Biology (HIMB)
A world-renowned research institute situated on Coconut Island in Kane'ohe Bay. Ongoing research at HIMB covers many disciplines of tropical marine science.
Hawai‘i Natural Energy Institute (HNEI)
An acknowledged international leader in the energy field, and has broadened its expertise to encompass the development of technologies that will enable us to tap our ocean resources.
Hawai‘i Undersea Research Laboratory (HURL)
Established by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the University of Hawai‘i to study deep water marine processes in the Pacific Ocean.
International Pacific Research Center (IPRC)
Conceived under U.S.-Japan Common Agenda for Cooperation in Global Perspective and focused on understanding climate variation and predictability in the Asia-Pacific region, including regional aspects of global environmental change. IPRC‘s Asia-Pacific Data-Research Center provides easy access to climate data and products.
Joint Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Research (JIMAR)
Established to pursue the common research interests of NOAA and the UH in oceanic, atmospheric, and geophysical research, including climate and global change, equatorial oceanography, tsunamis, and fisheries oceanography.
UH Sea Grant College Program
“...engages leaders, policymakers, researchers, business, and the general public to improve the understanding and stewardship of marine and coastal resources in the state, region, and nation through innovative... efforts.”

Study Rooms
Group study rooms (located on the second floor of Hamilton Library) and presentation practice rooms (located next to the Sci/Tech Reference Desk in Hamilton) are available on a reservation basis only. Go to the Circulation Desk with your valid UH Mānoa ID card to get access to your reserved room.
Interlibrary Loan (ILL) Services
ILL obtains books, journal articles, and other materials for UH Mānoa students, faculty, staff, and affiliates when the materials are NOT available in the UH Mānoa Libraries.
Library ID Registration
Your UH ID is also your library card but you need to register it with the UH Library. This can be done online or in person at a circulation desk.
