The United States Fire Administration (USFA) was originally established in the Department of Commerce in 1974 as the National Fire Prevention and Control Administration. It was placed in the Federal Emergency Management Agency in 1979, and it became part of DHS in 2003. It is responsible for promoting fire safety and preventing deaths from fire in the U.S.
