Information about congressional offices
Congressional papers collections are like the file cabinets and network drives of a congressional office. As much as possible, archivists try to preserve the organizational scheme originally used by the office. The more you understand about the work of our congressional offices and how they function, the more effectively youʻll be able to find information in the congressional collections.
Legislative branch research
Understanding the legislative branch and the legislative process can help you to understand the context of a particular bill, including the power dynamics working for and against its passage. These resources will also help you find published documentation, like the Congressional Record and published committee hearings and reports, that you wonʻt typically find in congressional collections.
