Advanced Search

In Advanced Search, you have the option to limit your search in various ways. You can use any combination of these limiters to eliminate results that you do not want and concentrate on those that are of most interest. 



  1. Runs your search against
    1. Any field,
    2. Title,
    3. Author/Creator,
    4. Subject,
    5. Holding Call Number,
    6. ISBN,
    7. or ISSN.
  2. Tells the system how to interpret your search terms:
    1. contains – your search terms can be anywhere within the field you specified in #1;
    2. is (exact) – your search terms will be searched as a phrase; or
    3. starts with (title only) – the title must start with your search terms.
  3. Allows you to limit searches to a particular Search Scope:
    1. Everything,
    2. UHM Library,
    3. All UH Libraries,
    4. Course Reserves, or
    5. Institutional Repository.
  4. Allows you limit your search results by:
    1. Material Type (e.g., books, journals, articles, video/film, etc.),
    2. Language (e.g. English, Hawaiian, Japanese, French, etc.), and/or
    3. Publication Date (using a date range)
