The Government Documents Collection is an official depository library for United Nations documents and publications. The Collection provides access to the Official Records of the General Assembly, Economic and Social Council, and the Security Council, as well as yearbooks, statistical series, monographs and periodicals distributed by UN offices in New York, Geneva and Vienna.
The Collection also receives selected English-language publications from UN regional commissions such as the Economic and Social Commision for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) and the Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) as well commissions covering Africa, Western Asia, and Latin America.
The Collection acquires additional documents and publications from U.N.-affiliated specialized agencies. Those agencies currently collected include: Food and Agriculture Organization, International Labour Organization, International Monetary Fund, Unesco, and the World Bank.
UN documents are arranged on the shelves using either United Nations document symbols or our own in-house classification scheme rather than the Library of Congress system used by the rest of the library. The UN system arranges documents and publications by the agency which produced them and the type of document. See UN Documents Numbers for more information on shelving arrangements.
