"The program begins with a short video clip from the 1998 ʻAha Mānaleo held in Lahaina, Maui, to remember Kupuna Ann Ford, who recently passed away. Then, hosts Hailama Farden and Kupuna Kauahipaula are joined by Kupuna Maria Artis of Honolulu. She talks about her family, which is from Hakalau on the Big Island, and also about her schooling and efforts to speak the Hawaiian language. She also shares stories about her father's poi store and how the family sold their own "moonshine" during the time of Prohibition in Hawaiʻi. Kupuna Artis has worked at ʻIolani Palace for many years and remembers when the meetings were held entirely in Hawaiian. They talk about her experiences working there, and also at other jobs she's had. Finally, she gives her thoughts on children in the Hawaiian language immersion schools program."
