Research Tools: Special Collections & Archives

The University Archives contains the official and unofficial records such as administration-, faculty- and student-created materials, documenting the history of the University of Hawaii and its role in local and state history. The Manuscript Collections include records of international peace organizations focusing on the Pacific, the Japanese American Veterans Collection, the Hawaii War Records Depository, the Hawaii Congressional Papers Collection, and other modern political papers.

The largest collection of Asian materials in the State of Hawaii and the Pacific region, it supports study and research on China, Japan, Korea, South Asia, and Southeast Asia. The collection covers a variety of subjects in the humanities and social sciences and is particularly strong in history, literature, language, philosophy, business, and fine arts.

Provides access to three major resources: United States Federal Depository Collection; United Nations Depository Collection; and Manoa MAGIS: Maps, Aerials and GIS. Government documents of the State of Hawaii and selected Pacific Islands nations are held in the Hawaiian & Pacific Collections.

Internationally recognized research collections with a focus on study and research related to Hawaii, Melanesia, Micronesia, and Polynesia. Besides books, serials, and documents, these collections include manuscripts and archives, such as the Hawaiian Sugar Planters' Association (HSPA) Plantation Archives, Dole Corporation Archives, and the Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands Archives.

A major archive of documents and art works relating to the artist and writer Jean Charlot and to those with whom he came in contact over his long career in France, Mexico, the United States, and the Pacific. Includes the papers of Juliette May Fraser and the Archives of Hawaii Artists and Architects.
