Background Info

Great for genealogy research because it includes a person's name, occupation, and residence. This means you can trace the home address and profession of your family members throughout the last 150 years. City directories were first published in 1869 and produced irregularly through the 1890's. From 1900, city directories were produced annually until 1942. Then, it was suspended between 1943-1946. Publication resumed in 1947 and it continues today. Prior to 1954, the city directories included all islands. Starting in 1954, Oʻahu was published as one volume and all islands except Oʻahu was published as a separate volume.
