The National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) was established in 1961 as the Statistical Reporting Service. It conducts surveys, including the Census of Agriculture, and produces statistics about agricultural production in the U.S.
Government Documents provides access to many NASS publications, including the following series:
Farms, land in farms, and livestock output
Census of agriculture (A 92.53/) The Department of Agriculture took over the Census of Agriculture from the Census Bureau in 1997. While some of the historical censuses of agriculture are available in full text on the NASS web site, volumes covering pre-statehood Hawai`i and U.S. territories and possessions are not. Look for these in OneSearch. Historical data from the Census of Agriculture is also available in Non-decennial census publications (1820-1967), which provides copies of Census Bureau publications that were not part of decennial census reports. Read more about the microfiche set.
NASS produces reports on crops, vegetables, livestock, fish hatcheries, and agricultural chemicals, among other topics. Use ProQuest Statistical Insight (UHM login required) to search for more statistical publications.
