Rural Development (RD) manages programs and administers loans and grants to promote economic development in rural America. It encompasses the Rural Business and Cooperative Service, Rural Utilities Service, Rural Housing Service, and Office of Community and Economic Development. Its functions were previously handled by the Farmers Home Administration, Rural Electrification Administration, and the Agricultural Cooperative Service.
