The Forest Service (FS), established in 1905, manages national forests and grasslands for forestry, hiking, and other uses. FS operates several regional research laboratories that publish research reports on tree health, fire management, road construction, pests, and other topics.
Government Documents provides access to many Forest Service publications, many of which are not cataloged. Our holdings include the following series:
Maps and guides to national forests (A 13.36/2:) are shelved in the Map Collection. Most of the FS maps are not cataloged, so please ask a librarian for assistance.
General technical reports (A 13.88:) Reports issued by the various Forest Service experiment stations.
Research papers (A 13.78:) Results of research conducted by Forest Service experiment stations.
Environmental impact statements (A 13.92:) Environmental impact statements, management plans, and other documents relating to programs and activities in the national forests.
We also have Congressional reports, documents, committee hearings, and prints related to timber, forestry, forest fires, endangered species, and other topics. Search for these using ProQuest Congressional (UHM login required). Additional documents covering 1910-1932 are available in the Executive Branch Documents microfiche set. Please contact a government documents librarian if you have questions about our holdings.
