COVID-19 Update, June 18, 2020

While we remain closed, the Hawaiian and Pacific Collections are providing access to our materials through two services, available to UH Mānoa students, faculty, and staff.

Circulating materials can be requested and picked up through Hamilton Library's "Request, Sign, Grab and Go.” Generally, this includes anything that does not say “Library Use Only” in the OneSearch Location description, or that is not available online or through HathiTrust.

Non-circulating materials can be scanned for you, within copyright limitations. Generally, this includes: a chapter from a book or 10% (whichever is larger), or an article from a periodical, scholarly journal, or newspaper.

For both categories of access, initiate your request in OneSearch. Search for the materials you need, and submit requests through OneSearch. Instructions on how to submit requests can be found here.

Our staff will verify if the items can circulate or not. If the items can circulate, the items will be retrieved and will be made available for pick-up at the Library's main entrance in 3-4 business days. If the items cannot be checked out, your request will be canceled and a librarian will reach out to you to see if we can find an alternative text, or if your need is best met via our scanning program. If it is determined that a scan is needed, we will work with you to determine the chapter or journal article you need, and place a scanning request on your behalf. Generally, scans will be made available 3-4 business days after the scan request is submitted.

The scanning service for non-circulating items and the “Request, Sign, Grab and Go” service are currently limited to UH Mānoa students, faculty, and staff.

COVID-19 Update, May 22, 2020

Hamilton Library, including the Hawaiian and Pacific Collections, remains closed for in-person access to materials and in-person services. But we are still working, from home, and are available to help you.

For Summer Session I, or until the library is re-opened for library services (whichever is sooner), Hawaiian and Pacific Collections librarians will be available “live” via chat reference, Mon-Fri, 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, to help with finding resources for your research and assignments. Students and instructional and research faculty are encouraged to contact us to let us know what you need and how we can help.

Outside of those hours, you can reach us via one of the methods listed below. We will respond as quickly as we can, and will prioritize inquiries from UH students, faculty, and staff.

April 27, 2020

In early May, another due date extension will be implemented. Due dates on items whose loans were extended on March 20 to May 15, 2020, and items since loaned or renewed, will be extended to August 14, 2020 (the last day of Summer Session II). Exceptions include audiovisual materials, Reserve materials, and other special loans.
