About the Event (from the flyer)
"Okinawan Ryukyūan language, Uchinaaguchi is becoming an endangered as the number of people who speak the language is decreasing. Dr. Gijs van der Lubbe [ハイス・ファン・デル・ルベ 特別研究員] from the Netherlands is a Japan Society for the Promotion of Science International Research Fellow at the Graduate School of Regional Culture, Okinawa International University whose research focuses on the grammatical description of the Northern Ryukyuan languages and the development of learning materials. He hosts a radio show entirely in Uchinaaguchi on a local radio station.
Misato Matsuda is is an organizer and a facilitator of “Uchiinaaguchi [sic] Shutoku Binchookwai” a study group she formed with Dr Gijs van der Lubbe in 2013 to preserve Uchinaaguchi. Misato is an administrator at Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University."
